It isn't ALL about the Oscars, Wednesday MOVIE News

EDITOR'S NOTE: LEST WE GET TOTALLY STUPIFIED BY OSCAR WEEK MANIA, LET'S KEEP OUR EYES ON SOME OTHER 'BALLS' AS WELL.

Affleck to Take Flight as Superman
It's being reported that none other than Ben Affleck will play George Reeves in Focus Features' "Truth, Justice and the American Way." EDITOR'S NOTE: I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD HORRIFYING VISIONS OF BEN AFFLECK'S CHUBBY THIGHS IN TIGHTS, WAS I? (UNABLE TO LIFT OFF THE GROUND FOR THE FLYING SCENES?)

The story centers on a detective in Los Angeles trying to solve Reeves' mysterious death. Reeves met a tragic, mysterious end in 1959 after years portraying TV's Superman.

Diane Lane will also star in the film as Toni Mannix, the wife of a Hollywood executive who might have been linked to Reeves romantically. And Adrian Brody will play the detective.
Allen Coulter is directing from a script by Paul Bernbaum and rewritten by Howard Korder. EDITOR'S NOTE: GEORGE REEVES...NO DISRESPECT TO THE DEAD INTENDED...WASN'T EXACTLY A SYLPH EITHER. SO AFFLECK IS KINDA RIGHT FOR THIS. (REEVES ALSO WASN'T EXACTLY MR.DYNAMIC-ACTING-PERSONALITY, SO THAT NON-CHARISMA THING OF AFFLECK'S SHOULD ALSO WORK PRETTY WELL).

BATMAN BEGINS
The website "World of KJ" provides coverage of Christian Bale at Wondercon 2005 discussing his part in the upcoming BATMAN BEGINS as well as his involvement in future Batman films.

Bale noted that he is signed up for two sequels but Christopher Nolan is not at this time.

The site notes that "Bale said that the reason they're doing this movie is because they understand the frustration of the fans never getting a satisfying Batman movie. That is the reason that this movie is not a sequel or a prequel. It's a reinvention, something purely made for the hardcore fans who've been waiting all these years for a Batman movie and never gotten one. Bale's aim is for the most loyal Batman fan to come out of the theater satisfied, and for the general public to come out surprised and educated at how deep and great this character is."

Warner Bros.' 'Il Mare' calls for Plummer
Christopher Plummer has joined the cast of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Il Mare," which Argentinian helmer Alejandro Agresti is directing.

Plummer will play the father of Keanu Reeves' character in the film, EDITOR'S NOTE: AWW, POOR MR. PLUMMER. WHAT A MENSCH! which co-stars Sandra Bullock. EDITOR'S NOTE: WOW. AND SANDRA BULLOCK. WHAT THE HECK IS KEANU DOING WITH THESE GUYS (OTHER THAN DRAGGING THEM DOWN)?!

"Il Mare" is a remake of a Korean film, "Siworae," which also was released under the title "Il Mare."

The new film is being produced by Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment.

A romantic comedy, "Il Mare" revolves around a lonely doctor (Bullock) and a frustrated architect (Reeves) who live in the same house, only two years apart. They fall in love via letters they exchange through a mailbox that mysteriously links the two of them.

Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn wrote the script. Mary McLaglen will executive produce, and manager-producer Erwin Stoff will get an unspecified production credit. Plummer's recent credits include "Alexander" and "National Treasure."

Net 2.0
Shooting will begin in April 2005 on "The Net 2.0," the sequel to the Sandra Bullock thriller "The Net."

Charles Winkler, Irwin Winkler's son, will direct the film. The story centers on Hope Cassid who arrives in Istanbul to start a new job as a computer systems analyst. She has her identity stolen and quickly finds herself on the run from authorities for murdering someone and stealing $14 million.EDITOR'S NOTE: THIS ITEM WASN'T CLEAR....IS BULLOCK REPRISING HER ROLE FOR THIS?

Bay Takes on "Molly"
Producer director Michael Bay has come on board as a producer for New Line Cinema's "Molly's World." Bay will produce the long in development psychological thriller via his Platinum Dunes shingle.

The story centers on a psychiatrist who gets drawn into the world of a patient who killed her family in an effort to protect them from a supernatural element.

Neil Marshall Stevens wrote the script.

Sarandon wed to NL's 'Woodcock'
Susan Sarandon is joining the cast of New Line Cinema's "Mr. Woodcock."

Craig Gillespie is helming the comedy, and Bob Cooper is producing via his Landscape Pictures.

The script centers on a young man (Seann William Scott) who returns to his hometown to stop his mother (Sarandon) from marrying his old high school gym teacher, who made life a living hell for him and many of his classmates. Billy Bob Thornton plays the gym teacher.
