Souvenir Magazine for Revenge of the Sith
In April, IDG Entertainment, publisher of Star Wars Insider magazine, will carry on a tradition that began in movie theaters back in the summer of 1977. Star Wars souvenir guides, which began as theater concession stand items back in the days of the classic trilogy, are back for Episode III with the Revenge of the Sith Collector's Guide.
Inside this highly collectible program you'll find behind-the-scenes information you won't find anywhere else, including interviews with the cast and crew, and exclusive photos. You will also encounter detailed character biographies, descriptions of vehicles and aliens, sneak peeks of the new heroes and villains, and much more.
The Episode III Collector's Guide is a far cry from the first thin programs sold in 1977, which were a mix of color and black and white imagery scattered in with a few character bios and scene descriptions. In the wake of the film's huge success, a second printing was required which came bound in a new "pebble-tone" textured cover. The first version, which was printed on a slicker stock, is now hotly sought out by collectors.
For Empire, publisher Paradise Press recognized the need for extended coverage of the hotly anticipated sequel, so offered a much richer guide than what had been doled out for the first film. The Empire Strikes Back Official Collectors Edition swelled to over three times the size of the Star Wars version, with a great deal of focus on the magic and engineering that went into the making of the film.
For Jedi, Paradise Press was able to hit the ground running with their Return of the Jedi Official Collectors Edition, matching the size and scope of its predecessor. The Jedi souvenir guide was the first to be sold primarily through retail outlets outside the theater level.
For Episode I, Topps thickened the Official Souvenir Magazine to include extensive coverage of the film and its makers, including a peek at the licensing of the film and its soundtrack. The cover marked a diversion from previous editions with an all new chrome image of the release poster artwork.
A domestic souvenir guide for Episode II wasn't in the cards, but that didn't stop countries like Japan, France, England, and others from printing up lavish programs for international Star Wars fans. These typically are richly illustrated with art and stills, since the look of Star Wars films has become one of its most powerful international assets.
For Episode III, IDG has put together a fantastic souvenir guide that promises to surpass all others, and carry on a tradition that began 28 years ago. If you plan to get only ONE souvenir for Revenge of the Sith... this is the one! EDITOR'S NOTE: WELL ALRIGHTY, THEN!
AND LET'S HAVE AN EXTRA "!!!!" FOR EMPHASIS. !!!!
