TELEVISION Dweebing

EDITOR'S NOTE: HERE YOU ARE, MINDING YOUR OWN BUSINESS, COASTING TOWARDS THE WEEKEND....AND NOW I HAVE TO MESS UP EVERYTHING BY FINALLY ADDING SOME NEWS TO THE DWEEBLETTER.

I HAVE NERVE, HUH?

NBC is expected to announce today that Chris Noth will return to the "Law & Order" franchise next season.Mr. Noth will reprise his character, Det. Mike Logan, which he originated on "Law & Order" in 1990, for the franchise spinoff "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." Mr. Noth will guest star on the show this Sunday. He left "Law & Order" in 1995.

Mr. Noth is expected to appear on half the "Criminal Intent" episodes next season and be paired with a new partner, who has yet to be cast. Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, who currently play investigating detectives on "Criminal Intent," will remain on the show.NBC Universal and Wolf Films, which produces the "Law & Order" shows, declined comment. EDITOR'S NOTE: NOTH ROCKS! IT'S JUST SAD THAT HE CAN'T HAVE A TV REUNION WITH LENNY BRISCOE. SNIFFLE......

BATTLESTAR Gets Renewed
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, which has aired five episode of its first season of 13 episodes, will be back for a second season thanks to its great ratings since it's premiere.BATTLESTAR GALACTICA airs on Fridays at 10 p.m.EST on SCI FI. EDITOR'S NOTE: I HAVE BEEN TAPING THIS BUT HAVEN'T GOTTEN AROUND TO WATCHING IT YET. ALL REPORTS ARE THAT IT IS QUITE GOOD. (NOT "FARSCAPE"-GOOD, BUT STILL.....)

THIS IN FROM DWEEB-CORRESPONDANT PLANO-KEVIN:
'Star Trek: Enterprise' to End in May
After four years, the mission is over for "Star Trek: Enterprise."

The prequel to the original "Star Trek" science fiction series will air its final episode May 13, UPN and Paramount Network Television announced Wednesday.

The series will get a send-off that "salutes its contributions to the network and satisfies its loyal viewers," said UPN Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff. She didn't disclose details.

"Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted in September 2001. Scott Bakula stars as Capt. Jonathan Archer, along with John Billingsley, Jolene Blalock, Dominic Keating, Anthony Montgomery, Linda Park and Connor Trinneer. EDITOR'S NOTE: ON THE ONE HAND, I'M SAD. I ACTUALLY RATHER LIKE THE SHOW. MOSTLY FOR THE NEAT CHEMISTRY OF THE CAST. (THEY ARE MUCH LESS CONTRIVED AND SEEM MORE NATURAL TOGETHER THAN SOME OF THE PREVIOUS CASTS).

ON THE OTHER HAND, THIS FREES UP CONNOR TRINNEER TO COME TO HOUSTON AND DATE ME.

SO IT ISN'T ALL BAD NEWS.......

The series has been sold into rerun syndication in most of the country and is set for debut this fall.

Its end means that, for the first time in 18 years, no first-run "Star Trek" series will be airing. The franchise included "Star Trek" (1966-69, NBC); "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-94, syndicated); "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1992-99, syndicated); "Star Trek: Voyager" (1995-2001, UPN); and "Star Trek: Enterprise."

"Star Trek" movies also have been released. EDITOR'S NOTE: MUCH AS WE'VE TRIED TO GET THEM TO STOP.....

While bidding a warm goodbye to "Star Trek: Enterprise," the studio hinted at more "Star Trek" to come.

"We all look forward to a new chapter of this enduring franchise in the future," said Paramount Network Television President David Stapf. EDITOR'S NOTE: WHO KNOWS....MAYBE ALL THE CURRENT REGIME WILL DIE, AND NEW PEOPLE....PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY RESPECT THE FANS...MIGHT TAKE OVER THE FRANCHISE.

STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED.....

Showtime Has Killer Series in the Works
Showtime is on the fast track to develop a new series based on Jeff Lindsay's "Dexter" novels.

James Manos Jr. will adapt the books and also serve as an executive producer on the show.

The series will focus on criminal lab technician/serial killer Dexter Morgan. Morgan is "a highly respected lab technician for the Miami Dade Police Department specializing in blood spatter,EDITOR'S NOTE: AND WEREN'T HIS PARENTS PROUD WHEN HE TOLD THEM ABOUT HIS COLLEGE MAJOR?! is a handsome, polite man who also happens to be a sociopathic serial killer that commits occasional dismemberment. EDITOR'S NOTE: WELL, AS LONG AS IT'S ONLY OCCASIONAL.....But with the help of his foster father, a pragmatic police officer, the orphan Morgan learns to channel his drive, killing only people who deserve to die." EDITOR'S NOTE: SEE....IT ALL WORKS OUT JUST FINE.....

Paging Daryl Hannah
Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. TV is looking to bring a high-concept show about a mermaid to the small screen. The untitled drama/fantasy project is about a mermaid who attempts to live on dry land in Miami.

Brad Kern created the show and will executive produce along with Aaron Spelling and Executive Producer/Writer E. Duke Vincent.

This not, of course, connected to Touchstone Television's "Splash, Too," the made for TV movie from 1988 in which Amy Yasbeck and Todd Waring took over the roles of Madison (Bauer) and Allen Bauer -- so there is hope for this new project. EDITOR'S NOTE: SOMETIMES, THEY DON'T EVEN NEED MY HELP WITH THE SNARK.

DESPERATE Chinlund
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK's Nick Chinlund has landed a recurring role on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. He'll play Detective Sullivan, a police detective who is investigating the death of Christine Estabrook's character. Chinlund's first episode is set to air on February 20.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

From POINT PLEASANT to 24
Actor James Morrison (POINT PLEASANT) has joined the cast of the FOX drama in a recurring role. He'll play Bill Buchanan, a high-ranking officer who joins the show's C.T.U. in their terrorist hunt.
