Ellen DeGeneres Tapped to Host Emmys
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has tapped Ellen DeGeneres to host the "57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards" telecast Sept. 18 on CBS, sources said.
Ms. DeGeneres hosted the Emmys alone in 2001. She co-hosted with Patricia Richardson in 1994 and was one of 11 comedians who shared "hostless" hosting duties in 2003.
Ms. DeGeneres, who now stars in her popular eponymous syndicated talk show, drew high marks from critics and viewers for her funny, tasteful performance in 2001. The awards show had been delayed twice that year due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It drew 17 million viewers, down from 22 million the prior year, but was considered a fairly strong showing as the nation was still rocked by the attacks.
That program was also broadcast on CBS, where Ms. DeGeneres was then starring in a short-lived sitcom, "The Ellen Show."
