Friday Trekking

EDITOR'S NOTE: HAPPY FRIDAY DWEEBPALS! FIRST UP, MAY I JUST LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT A) THE NEW STAR WARS TRAILER COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY ROCKS!, AND B) THE NEW MOVIE "ROBOTS" DITTO.

AND NOW, SOME STAR TREK NEWS:

STAR TREK XI:
According to Variety, Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers) has been hired to write the screenplay for Star Trek XI, the next installment in the most successful franchise in entertainment history.

Rick Berman EDITOR'S NOTE: WELL, BERMAN IS INVOLVED SO WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THIS PROJECT WILL GET PUSHED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION? ( DO I HEAR SLIM? NONE?) has been working on development of the film with Jordan Kerner (Inspector Gadget) and Kerry McCluggage (Miami Vice television series) even though reports out of the studio had the project being shelved in January.

Rumored to center around the Romulan war, which took place prior to the original series, the film currently doesn't even have a tentative release date on Paramount's schedule.

Star Trek Scribe Talks About New Film
SyFy Portal had a chance to chat with Erik Jendresen who was recently signed to write the next installmentin the "Star Trek" franchise.

Jenresen told that, "the story concept, the basic idea of this thing, is pretty damn big. It's a noble enterprise, pun intended." EDITOR'S NOTE: FUNNY. I FEEL A BIG OLE HONKIN TREMOR IN THE FORCE.

He admitted that he is not a diehard Star Trek fan but he was drawn in my being offered a blank slate and a simple notion.

Jendresen said that, "We're going 160-odd years before Kirk is born. It's an earlier time, and I think it would be really refreshing to feel something in the course of telling this tale, instead of being wowed by special effects, or presenting another crew in jeopardy where, in the end, the captain does something brilliant, and all’s right with the world.” EDITOR'S NOTE: THERE'S NOT-A-FAN-SO-BRINGS-FRESH-EYES AND THEN THERE'S DISRESPECTFUL-TO-FRANCHISE-HEART-AND-THEREFORE-CLUELESS. HMMM?

Koenig Returns to Chekov Role for Net Series
Jack Marshall, Executive Producer of “Star Trek: New Voyages” has announced publicly that an agreement has been reached with Walter Koenig to reprise his role as Pavel Chekov in the production called only “New Voyages Episode 404”, written by D.C. Fontana.

Marshall is mum on any more information regarding Koenig’s return as the Trek icon. Koenig will reprise his role in the latest episode of the internet production “Star Trek: New Voyages” set to be filmed this Fall.

Koenig stated, “I had pretty well determined that Star Trek and Chekov were part of my past. I mean, who wouldn’t, it’s been nearly forty years since my first “Warp factor four, Keptin”. But then the folks from "New Voyages" approached and we started kicking around ideas for a Chekov story. It occurred to me that what we were coming up with was what every actor dreams of: a second chance to get it right. An opportunity not only to resurrect a role, but to make of that character a living breathing profoundly human - being. It is almost beyond comprehension that this is happening so late in my life! Talk about belated reward, talk about closure, talk about science fiction! I didn’t believe I could ever again be this excited about performing a part. I guess it isn’t so trite after all: perhaps, all good things do come to those who wait.”

Star Trek: New Voyages appeared on the internet in January 17th 2004 with a second installment being released October 8th 2004. With over 16 million downloads to date, "Star Trek: New Voyages" continues the missions of the original Enterprise with new actors playing the legendary characters of Captain Kirk, Mister Spock and Doctor McCoy. Star Trek New Voyages was created and is produced by James Cawley and Jack Marshall with producer Max Rem, Visual Effects creator, and consulting producer, Eugene Roddenberry, Jr, son of the late Star Trek Creator, Gene Roddenberry.

This project is not produced by and is not associated with the Star Trek television and motion pictures properties or Paramount Pictures Corporation. EDITOR'S NOTE: I WONDER IF KOENIG'S INVOLVEMENT GETS LAWYERS INTO IT? IF THIS IS A NON-PARAMOUNT PRODUCTION, DOES THE INVOLVEMENT OF AN ORIGINAL CAST-MEMBER GET INTO STICKY TERRITORY AS TO THE RIGHTS?

NOT THAT I CARE, REALLY.......
