The Wednesday TV News
Network order pilot episode
Comic book superstar artist and toy manufacturer Todd McFarlane has a new TV project in development inspired by his line of TWISTED TALES action figures. McFarlane would host a half-hour anthology show in the same vein as THE TWILIGHT ZONE, with its stories taking place in the realms of science fiction, fantasy or horror. McFarlane himself would host the series if it ever reaches the air. EDITOR'S NOTE: UMM...YEAH. CAUSE ANTHOLOGY SHOWS HAVE DONE SO WELL IN THE PAST? NOT.
THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN producer Don Murphy is executive producing the project, via his Angry Films production banner, along with McFarlane, Terry Fitzgerald, Rick Benattar, Susan Montford and Trey Callaway. Callaway, the screenwriter of I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, is writing the series bible and a pilot script for Fox Television.
THE X-FILES Meets THE EXORCIST
Paul Scheuring, the creator of the FOX pilot PRISON BREAK, will be producing another pilot for FOX's 2005-06 season. The series is described as THE X-FILES meets THE EXORCIST and features a hard-living priest EDITOR'S NOTE: EXCUSE ME. 'HARD-LIVING PRIEST'? IS THAT.....UMM...KOSHER? who partners with a female doctor to investigate unexplained religious phenomena. The working title for the series is BRIAR & GRAVES. EDITOR'S NOTE: GUESS THEY WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT 'WILL-THEY-WON'T-THEY' SEXUAL TENSION THING. *ALTHOUGH, THIS IS ON FOX, SO MAYBE THEY WILL. EEK.
LOST on the Move
Hit TV series LOST may be shooting elsewhere than Hawaii since it seems that the state may close a loophole in its tax laws.
Film and television productions have been taking advantage of a 100 % tax credit Hawaii offers for high-tech businesses. It seems that citizens and the Hawaiian government feel that the biz is misusing the credit and cheating the state out of millions of dollars. It is unknown yet where the show would move if the law is changed, but Louisiana, New Mexico and the Carolinas are all rumored to be potential states where LOST could shoot.EDITOR'S NOTE: IF THEY SHOOT IN LOUISIANA IT BECOMES MORE LIKE A LOCAL DOCUMENTARY. *EXCEPT FOR THE ARTICULATE DIALOGUE. SNICKER.
Sackheim To Helm "Night Stalker
Variety reports that veteran "X-Files" director Dan Sackheim has been hired to direct Frank Spotnitz's ABC drama pilot "The Night Stalker."
"Spotnitz said he and Sackheimer are going for a 'very contemporary, sleek and scary look,' adding 'Night Stalker' will have "a style very much its own." He also promised a number of visual tricks, but declined to talk specifics."
"Night Stalker" is a reworking and updating of them mid '70's ABC cult favorite "Kolchak: The Night Stalker." Carl Kolchak uncovered mysteries involving vampires, serial killers and other freakish occurrences. EDITOR'S NOTE: I MISS "THE X-FILES". WE COULD USE SOME INTELLIGENT, CREEPING OUT, PARANOIA ON TV AGAIN.

Bruckheimer Gives Hackford "E-Ring"
Taylor Hackford and Jerry Bruckheimer are teaming up for the Warner Bros. TV pilot "E-Ring."
The show was created by David McKenna and Ken Robinson. McKenna actually approached Hackford about the project.
The show will center on "the action arm of the Pentagon" and the "life inside the most impenetrable building in Washington and what really goes on during wartime."
Described as "The West Wing" set at the Pentagon, "E-Ring" focuses on the fight for America's safety revealed through the inner workings of the U.S. military headquarters.
Created by David McKenna and Ken Robinson, the pilot was written by McKenna, who is exec producing with Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. Robinson is producing.
Hackford is reaping accolades for "Ray," which took 13 years to make in the face of repeated rejection by studios. EDITOR'S NOTE: LET'S HOPE THEY DO A BIT MORE JUDICIOUS EDITING ON THE PILOT FOR THIS, THAN THEY DID WITH "RAY". AHEM.....
