Not Star Wars/Monday Movie News

EDITOR'S NOTE: I FEEL WE MIGHT NEED TO BEGIN ADDING A NOTATION (HENCE, THE TITLE, ABOVE) TO ANYTHING THAT ISN'T STARWARS-RELATED. I MEAN, AS THE JUGGERNAUT BEGINS TO ROLE OVER US FOR THE NEXT MONTH OR TWO (AT LEAST). PUT AN ASTERISK BY IT OR SOMETHING.

BEFORE LONG, I'M NOT SURE IF MY BRAIN IS GOING TO EVEN BE ABLE TO REGISTER NON-STAR WARS INFORMATION, AS UNCLE GEORGE TAKES FINAL AND COMPLETE POSSESSION OF MY SOUL. (SMALL AS IT IS, IT WON'T TAKE MUCH EFFORT ON HIS PART, I REALIZE).

SO....WHILE I STILL AM ABLE....HERE'S SOME NON-SW STUFF TO CHEW ON:

Shyamalan Takes on "Lady in the Water"
M. Night Shyamalan's next movie, "Lady in the Water," will be for Warner Bros. Pictures.

The script written by Shyamalan centers on a building super who finds a sea nymph in his apartment building's pool. EDITOR'S NOTE: WHICH IS ACTUALLY FAIRLY COMMON IN CALIFORNIA.

Filming is scheduled to begin in August 2005 in Philadelphia. The movie is currently scheduled for release in July 2006.

Warners Takes on "Last Giants
Warner Bros. Pictures has optioned French children's book "The Last Giants" by Francois Place.
Set in the mid-1800s, the story revolves around a paleontologist who discovers what appears to be an enormous human tooth inscribed with a map. He sets off on a harrowing adventure to discover a mythical lost land of giants.

No screenwriter is attached yet

Scott to Have "Deja Vu"
Disney Studios and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are in negotiations with Tony Scott to direct the romantic thriller "Deja Vu."

The story centers on an FBI agent who travels back in time and falls in love with a woman doomed to be murdered. EDITOR'S NOTE: SAME PLOT AS ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVE "STAR TREK" EPS. (WRITTEN BY HARLAN ELLISON. WITH JOAN COLLINS AS EDITH KEELER).

The script is Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii. Jerry Bruckheimer will produce. Tony Scott has worked with Bruckheimer before on such films as "Top Gun" and "Days of Thunder."

Plans are for the film to go into production in this summer or fall.

Walsh joins 'Mare' cast for Warners
"Nip/Tuck" star Dylan Walsh has joined the cast of "Il Mare" for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow.

Walsh will play Morgan in the film, which stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves EDITOR'S NOTE: SHUDDER.... and is loosely based on the Korean hit "Siworae."

Walsh steps into the role for which John Corbett had been announced. Shohreh Aghdashloo, Ebon-Moss Bachrach, Willeke van Ammelrooy and Christopher Plummer also star.

"Il Mare," which is shooting in Chicago, is directed by Alejandro Agresti and produced by Doug Davison and Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Vertigo's Sonny Mallhi is co-producer. The executive producers are Mary McLaglen, Erwin Stoff, Robert Kirby and Bruce Berman. The screenplay is by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Auburn ("Proof"). He is shooting David Mamet's latest feature, "Edmond," with William H. Macy and Julia Stiles.

Hancock is'Dead' man for Universal
John Lee Hancock will adapt and direct the revenge drama "Dead I Well May Be" for Universal Pictures. Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and David Kanter are producing.

Written by Adrian McKinty, the book follows a street-savvy illegal immigrant from Ireland who lands a job as an Irish mob enforcer in New York in the early 1990s.

"This is a wonderfully written book focused on an Irish anti-hero who grew up amid the brutal civil wars of Belfast, and it's certain to add new depth to the action-film genre," Golin said. "John Lee Hancock is a masterful writer and director. We are confident that he will give Adrian McKinty's novel the screen translation it deserves." EDITOR'S NOTE: SECOND ONLY TO ITALIAN-AMERICAN MOB STORIES AS THE MOST OVER-DONE ETHNIC TALE. (HOW MUCH MORE DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THESE GUYS?)

NO OFFENSE TO ODDBOB, AND THE OTHER IRISH DWEEBS IN OUR MIDST....

Scott Stuber, vice chairman of worldwide production, and Donna Langley, executive vp production, will oversee the project for the studio. Anonymous Content's credits include "50 First Dates" and the Academy Award-winning "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." CAA-repped Hancock wrote and directed "The Alamo" and directed "The Rookie."

'2046' a good number for SPC
Sony Pictures Classics will acquire the North American rights to Wong Kar-wai's film "2046," the studio said Tuesday.

Starring Tony Leung Chiu-wai ("Hero"), Ziyi Zhang, ("House of Flying Daggers"), Gong Li ("Farewell My Concubine") and Maggie Cheung ("Hero"), "2046" is Wong's first feature film since the award-winning "In the Mood for Love" four years ago.

It features cinematography by Christopher Doyle and editing, art design and costumes by William Chang Suk-Ping. "2046" premiered In Competition at last year's Festival de Cannes and already has opened in a number of markets worldwide.

The film will have its U.S. premiere at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival, with a general release in the fall
