NEXT, HARRY POTTER RUMOR-MONGERING.....

Rumour: OotP Filming in Czech Republic?
The Express newspaper today has a new article about the possibility of filming for Order of the Phoenix taking place in the Czech Republic.

According to the paper, this move away from filming in Scotland and using Czech Republic locales instead, is a result of several factors, one being the continued inclement weather which forced the cancellation of filming scenes in Glencoe, Scotland.

"Warner Bros insiders have revealed that sets like Hagrid's House and Hogwarts School gatehouse in Glencoe will now be left unused after the cancellation of filming last week because of snow cost the company £300,000.

A tented village for the stars was dismantled just seven hours after it was put up and helicopters costing £3,000 an hour were brought in to take away portable loos and props off the hillside at Glenfinnan in the Highlands. "

Specifically in regards to making Phoenix, the article claims that "Movie insiders say the main scenes for will be shot in Eastern Europe."

Others reasons being listed for a potential move to film elsewhere other than on location in Scotland, have to do with tax incentives, and the apparent lack of them in Scotland. Also, the cost of the delays in filming big budget films such as the Potter movies can be prohibitive.

Says an unnamed source:

"Look at the Glenfinnan scene, it's costing a fortune to delay this filming. You expect this in movies but its always better if you can save money elsewhere to make up for losses.
We have already worked in Prague on other films and we see no reason why Harry Potter might not go there as well. I know the UK has lost out to 90 films mainly because they have been made elsewhere or scrapped.

"Everyone is worried in the film industry, jobs are going left, right and centre. We don't want Potter to go that way but these films are getting more expensive to make. The director can film basic landscapes in Scotland and use computer animation to make a scene filmed in the Czech Republic."

A Warner Brothers spokesperson is quoted as saying "I have not heard anything about leaving Scotland. But any discussion relating to the fifth film needs to go through the United States office not the UK one." EDITOR'S NOTE: THE WEBSITE WENT ON TO SAY THAT THIS WAS JUST IN THE RUMOR STAGE (OR RATHER, RUMOUR-STAGE), SO GRAIN OF SALT, IF YOU PLEASE.

OSCAR NOMINEE THOMAS HADEN CHURCH CAST AS THE NEW NEMESIS IN SONY PICTURES' AND MARVEL STUDIOS'
"SPIDER-MAN 3"
Latest Adventure set to debut worldwide on May 4, 2007

CULVER CITY, CA March 22, 2005 - Thomas Haden Church, who was most recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in "Sideways", has been cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy in the next chapter of the "Spider-Man" adventure, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad.

"Spider-Man 3", which is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, will reunite the successful team that was responsible for the first two blockbuster films. The franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and the new film will again reteam director Raimi, producers Ziskin and Arad, and actors Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as M.J..

Production on "Spider-Man 3" is scheduled to begin early next year.

"In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him."

The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church.

Since his star-making role in "Sideways", Church has been in demand. The actor is voicing one of the characters in the upcoming animated film "Charlotte's Web", and he recently appeared in Columbia Pictures' "Spanglish". Church previously appeared in such other films as "George of the Jungle", "330 Miles to Graceland", and "Tombstone". In 2003, he also starred in, co-wrote and directed the comedy "Rolling Kansas". From 1990 to 1995, Church played Lowell Mather in the TV series "Wings".

Public service advocates find new roles in Hollywood
In the MGM film "Be Cool," John Travolta's character Chili Palmer drives a hybrid car, while the bad guys cruise around in gas-guzzling SUVs.

In an episode of CBS' "Judging Amy", a young AIDS counselor with HIV helps save a suicidal teenage girl who has just discovered that she is HIV-positive.

And on an episode of UPN's "Eve" that airs in early May, the real-life AIDS counselor who inspired the "Judging Amy" character makes a cameo appearance in an episode about HIV testing.

Major elements of all three fictional story lines were not thought up by writers but inspired by advocacy and public health groups that work with Hollywood creative talent to encourage the accurate depiction of social issues ranging from sexual heath, drug and alcohol abuse, HIV and AIDS awareness to gun violence and the environment.

Although funding pressures have recently caused several advocacy groups to scale back their efforts or completely shut down, all the buzz over branded entertainment is prompting a growing number of nonprofits to take a closer look at working with Hollywood to get their messages out.
